The grain silo's of Senwes are the biggest silo complex in the Southern Hemisphere and can cope with the enormous amount of 275,000 tons of grain. Escorted tours can be organized to visit the silo's as well as a private milling complex next to Senwes.

Because of the growing demand for liquidated fertilizer, Omnia opened a factory in Wesselsbron in 1997, one of the biggest factories in South Africa. Raw material is obtained from overseas, Richards Bay, Sasolburg and Rustenburg to be processed in the Wesselsbron factory. Tons of liquidated fertilizer is distributed to the rich cultivated fields of the Western Free State, Northwest and North Cape.

Wesselsbron has a vast district which stretches from the Vet River in the south to the Vaal River in the north. The main cultivation is corn, but also wheat, sunflower and peanuts are cultivated.

Most farmers practise miscellaneous farming which includes dairy farming, sheep- and cattle farming.  This is a great asset for Wesselsbron who has a large abattoir.

The Clover Factory closed down in 2009, in spite of the fact that the “Zoetvlei Gouda” of Wesselsbron has achieved many prizes, even internationally.

The abattoir allows visitors to witness the slaughter of 60 units per day. These 60 cattle or 420 sheep come from the southern- and northeren Free State and is distributed as far as Pretoria, Stanger and Cape Town.

At a butchery in town visitors may watch how a ton of cold meat are being prepared per week. Cold meat, polony and viennas are distributed to supermarkets in Vryburg, Bloemfontein, Welkom, Kroonstad and Klerksdorp.

Another export product of Wesselsbron district is potatoes. During the potato season visitors can watch how potatoes are taken out of the soil, are sorted and packed in thousands of pockets and distributed to all the markets in the country. Also great amounts of watermelons are cultivated and distributed.

Although Wesselsbron is situated near Welkom, it has a flourishing business centre. Tourists can peep in at any shop and will find something worthwhile. In this way one may just find the shop with the biggest variety of modern shoes in the Free State. Do not be missed, because from the outside it may just look like an ordinary tobacco, sugar and candle shop, but once inside you will be taken unawares.

The biggest shop in town is the SPAR in P.Louis Kotzé street.

Wesselsbron is a rural town situated 35km from

Odendaalsrus and 50km from Welkom, yet many travelers

prefer the road from Bloemfontein to Gauteng via

                          Wesselsbron to the N1.
